Placing a Listing
Ordinary members may place wanted listings but you must be a confirmed member to place a sell listing on Omanbay.
You must have enough money in your account to cover the cost of your listing.
General items and vehicles are sold by auction, but you may list a buy now price if you wish. Property sales and rental, jobs, and tourism, are fixed price listings.
Members may place an unlimited number of listings at one time of which only 5 may be for identical items.
To place a listing
Go to Buy&Sell and click on the Sell tab. On the 'What do you want to sell?' page, select which group to place your listing in.
On the next screen choose an appropriate category and sub-category for your item and click Continue.
Fill in the requested information to describe your item. Describe your item honestly mentioning any wear or defects it has.
Enter your lowest price as the reserve price, the starting price should be at or lower than your reserve price. Only the starting price is displayed on Omanbay. Your reserve price is private and known only to you.
You may enter a 'buy now' price if you wish. The buy now price should be well above the reserve because you will lose your chance to make a good price in the auction if more than one bidder is interested in your item.
When you have entered the required information click Continue.
Uploading a photograph
Take a high resolution picture of your item.
Your photo must be of the item for sale only and may not show any people.
Upload the photo from your digital camera and save it to your pictures folder.
From the listing form click on Browse… find your picture, then open it. Wait until you see your picture appear before clicking Continue.
Select any extras you require, such as a homepage position or highlighting your listing, and click Continue.
Check that your listing is correct. If you need to edit anything use the Go Back button.
The cost of your listing is displayed on this page. Check your balance on the dashboard.
If you have enough money in your account, click Continue. If you don't have enough money in your account, you can still click continue, but your listing will not be published until you credit your account. Listings are kept for about a week and then deleted. If we delete your listing it will disappear from your My Omanbay and you will have to rewrite it.
Provided you have enough money in your account to cover your fees, your listing should appear on the site within 24 hours.
Your auction will finish 14 days from the time that we publish your listing.
Restricting Bidding To Confirmed Members
You can prevent non-confirmed members from bidding on your auctions. This may prevent nuisance from buyers who don’t turn up to collect their purchases, but it may also mean that you get less bids.
About Prices
You will see 5 different prices on Omanbay:
The reserve price is the lowest price that the seller will accept for the item. If the bidding doesn’t reach this price the item will not be sold. The reserve price is known only to the seller and is not displayed on listings.
The starting price is the lowest price the first bidder can bid at the start of the auction. You can set this below the reserve price to encourage bidding on your auction.
A buy now price may be posted by the seller if he/she is more interested in selling his/her item fast, than in getting the best possible price. If someone offers the buy now price he/she will be able to buy the item immediately and the auction will be cancelled. You should set the buy now price well above the reserve price. You may add a buy now price at any time during your auction from My Listings. Open the listing then click on the pencil icon to edit your listing. Your listing will go back to Admin for approval before being published on Omanbay.
The selling price is the value of the top bid at the end of the auction, provided that it is above the reserve price. It is the price that the buyer will pay to the seller.
A fixed price means that the item is not being auctioned. It is the price the buyer should pay to the seller. Properties and holiday accommodation are offered at a fixed price.
Fixed prices may be negotiable between the buyer and seller.
The selling price has already been negotiated during the auction and neither the seller nor the buyer should try to negotiate further after the auction. Sellers should ensure that the reserve price is the absolute lowest price that they will sell for, and buyers should not bid more than they are prepared to pay. Once the auction has closed the buyer and seller are considered to have shaken hands on the deal, and drunken coffee, and the price is no longer negotiable
Fixed Price Offers
A fixed price offer may be made if an auction closes below the reserve price. The seller can offer his/her item to the members who were bidding for it for a fixed price below the reserve price. The offer will be displayed in the My Omanbay/Fixed Offers of all the bidders and may be accepted from there. The buyer will get an email to alert him/her that a fixed price offer has been made.
.Auction Closing Times
Omanbay auctions last for 14 days from the time when the listing is published. If someone bids on your auction in the last 2 minutes of an auction, then the auction time will be extended by 2 minutes. This will allow you to get the best possible price for your item if more than one bidder is interested in it.
